First Grass Arrives at Stadium… in Sample Size

There’s a small patch of grass, only two square feet in size, sitting inside the portable construction offices outside Levi’s® Stadium.

And it’s the same turf that will eventually cover the ground floor of the 49ers new home. 

Yes, as was the case for most of the team’s five-decade run at Candlestick Park, San Francisco will play its games on natural field.

The grass, which started growing over a year ago at West Coast Turf in Livingston, Calif. will be cut into strips 42 inches wide and brought via refrigerated trucks to Levi’s® in April.

Comcast & NBCUniversal Enter Into 10-Year Deal

Comcast and NBCUniversal today announced a 10-year agreement with the San Francisco 49ers and Levi’s® Stadium designed to deliver an unmatched in-stadium fan experience.  Comcast is leveraging multiple business units – Comcast Cable, Comcast Business, regional sports network Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, and local NBC owned station NBC Bay Area – to help power what will be one of the most technologically advanced stadium in sports.

Intel Named Founding Partner

The San Francisco 49ers and Intel Corporation today announced that Intel will become a Founding Partner and a preferred technology provider for the world’s newest and most technologically-advanced stadium, Levi’s® Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The multi-year agreement is set to begin in 2014.

The University of California and The Santa Clara Stadium Authority announced today that they have partnered to host Cal’s home football game versus The University of Oregon in the first-ever collegiate football game at Levi’s® Stadium.

“Playing the first college football game at Levi’s® Stadium provides an exceptional opportunity for our student-athletes, alumni, students and fans to be some of the first to experience the new venue, one that will soon play host to a Super Bowl,” director of athletics Sandy Barbour said.

NRG Energy Installs 49th Solar Frame to Complete Levi

NRG Energy, Inc. Meet Rich Boyd, the senior project manager for Anning-Johnson, a 70-year-old nationwide company with San Francisco offices, hired to construct and connect some of the bare bones of Levi’s® Stadium: metal decking, thermal insulation and fire-proofing.

Season Ticket Holders Take Their Seats

When Miranda Margheim, a 49ers fan since the days of Kezar Stadium, reclined in the first seat at Levi’s® Stadium on Tuesday afternoon, she offered two words.

“Very comfortable,” Margheim, who has attended three of the team’s Super Bowl appearances, said with a smile. “All of the stadiums I have seen in my life, to see this one, it’s like a dream come true.”

Stadium Soon to Install Scoreboards

If you’ve driven past Levi’s® Stadium recently, you may have noticed – or heard – a 330-ton crane chugging along within the confines of the 49ers burgeoning home. Right now, the crane is being used to hang steel.

Very soon it will be the key to installing two gigantic, HD-quality scoreboards that will eventually be used to show in-game replays, videos and, of course, scoring information.

BNY Mellon Named “Official Investments Company” of the 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers football team today announced that BNY Mellon, the global leader in investment management and investment services, has been named the “Official Investments Company” for the football team and a Founding Partner of Levi’s® Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The 10-year agreement is set to begin in 2014 and run through the 2023 season.

It’s hard not to forget about the future home of the San Francisco 49ers, Levi’s® Stadium. The billion dollar building set to open in 2014 looms large over the team’s Santa Clara practice fields every day.

For those not around the 49ers facility, Levi’s® Stadium has been receiving plenty or web traffic and airtime. The latest buzz on the project comes from the mobile app currently being developed by the 49ers. The app is being designed to augment the game day experience for all visitors to the stadium.

PepsiCo is one of the stadium’s 10 founding partners, with this deal encompassing PepsiCo’s portfolio of iconic brands such as Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Quaker, Gatorade and Tropicana.
