Pac-12 Announces Agreement with Levi’s® Stadium to Continue Hosting Pac-12 Football Championship Game
LOS ANGELES – The Pac-12 Football Championship Game Presented by 76® will continue to be held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. at least through 2019, Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott announced today during his remarks at Pac-12 Football Media Days.
The new agreement adds two years – 2018 and 2019 – to the current deal, with an option to extend through the 2020 Pac-12 Football Championship Game.
“I’m very pleased with the experience we’ve created for our fans, universities, and student-athletes over the last three years,” said Scott. “I look forward to working with our great partners at Levi’s Stadium and the San Francisco 49ers to continue to grow this marquee event in the Bay Area.”
The Pac-12 is headed into its fourth year hosting the Pac-12 Football Championship Game in the state-of-the-art Silicon Valley venue. Over the last three years, the event has grown to include a full fan fest, and the exciting action on the field has catapulted two teams into the College Football Playoff: Oregon in 2014 and Washington in 2016. The game has also seen huge national television audiences and given Pac-12 student-athletes the chance to play in an incredible stadium while gaining exposure in the national spotlight.
”The Pac-12 Conference has helped make Levi’s Stadium a showcase for great college football and we look forward to continuing that relationship through this game, the Foster Farms Bowl, and the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship,” said 49ers President Al Guido. “Fan support for college football at Levi’s Stadium has been outstanding and the reaction to our recently launched Bay Area College Football Fan Program shows that interest is on the rise.”
The championship game moved to Levi’s Stadium in 2014, its first time at a neutral site after being hosted on Pac-12 campuses for three years, in recognition of the importance of ensuring that the conference’s best teams are prepared and undoubtedly qualified for the highest levels of postseason play, while showcasing the best of Pac-12 football on the biggest stage.
